Legal Norcal P.C. is a trusts, estates, and business law firm based in Chico, California, serving clients across Northern California and the rest of the state. Our practice has grown to a point where we need to add an experienced trusts and estates associate to continue serving the families who come to us at the standard they deserve. We exist to equip people with the tools and guidance to take agency over their lives and their legacy, to become their true selves, and to protect those they love. We represent families navigating multigenerational wealth transfer, Spanish-speaking families with smaller estates and family businesses, blended families with complex dynamics, elderly clients, and undocumented immigrants with substantial California assets.

What You Will Do

  • Run probate matters from petition through final distribution (intake, fee planning, petitions, court appearances throughout Northern California, notices, inventory, accountings, final distribution)
  • Administer routine and complex trusts (beneficiary notices, asset inventory, sub-trust funding, accountings, distributions)
  • Handle estate administration matters (small-estate affidavits, spousal property petitions, summary procedures)
  • Manage estate planning matters (approximately 25 to 35 percent of time): design meetings, attorney review, signing meetings, with the legal team behind you

What We Are Looking For

  • You take initiative and bring solutions, not just findings
  • You have an excellent bedside manner with clients
  • You are technologically fluent
  • You bill thoughtfully against a 1,500-hour annual target
  • You are collaborative and collegial
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred but not required

Required

  • J.D. from a California-accredited or ABA-accredited law school
  • Active California State Bar license in good standing
  • Three or more years of substantive trusts and estates experience, with depth in at least two of estate planning, trust administration, and probate, and meaningful exposure to the third
  • Working knowledge of the California Probate Code, the California Revenue and Taxation Code, the California Rules of Court, and the California Code of Civil Procedure as they apply to probate and trust administration. This includes knowledge of Proposition 19 and Medi-Cal recovery
  • Comfort with contemporaneous time tracking and modern case management software (MyCase, WealthCounsel, Clio Draft, DecisionVault, Lawmatics)

Strongly Preferred

  • Spanish language proficiency, written and verbal
  • WealthCounsel and Clio Draft drafting experience
  • Familiarity with MyCase, DecisionVault, and Lawmatics

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $130,000 to $160,000, depending on experience
  • Production bonus tied to the matters you handle and the value you deliver

  • Professional development budget
  • Full firm-provided technology stack (CEB, LexisNexis, WealthCounsel, MyCase, Clio Draft, Lawmatics, DecisionVault, Microsoft 365)
